Current Opportunities at Vanderbilt

A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the Pham Laboratory, focusing on molecular imaging of biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease.

Department Radiology and Radiological Sciences
Full Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join an NIH-funded multidisciplinary research team focused on developing nanobody-based imaging and delivery strategies for precision molecular fingerprinting of soluble amyloid beta oligomers clearance flow dynamics using a targeted near-infrared (NIR) nanobody for early detection of Alzheimer's disease. The project integrates molecular biology, imaging, and in vivo mouse studies to investigate soluble amyloid beta oligomer biology and establish novel diagnostic approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mouse studies, including tissue collection following euthanasia, and downstream processing of ocular, brain, and other tissues.
  • Be proficient in mouse eye and brain dissections for the assays below.
  • Develop and plan projects for experimental work to identify cellular mechanisms and novel treatment strategies associated with ocular diseases and Alzheimer's disease, in consultation with supervisors.
  • Conduct and optimize laboratory assays such as:
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence (IF)
  • Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)
  • Western blotting (WB)
  • Confocal microscopy and image acquisition/analysis
  • Execute in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo experiments aligned with project aims.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, ensuring rigor and reproducibility.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in compliance with NIH and institutional guidelines.
  • Contribute to experimental design, protocol development, and troubleshooting.
  • Prepare manuscripts, figures, and presentations for publication and scientific meetings.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and participate in lab meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional animal care and use protocols (IACUC).
