Leping Wang, Ph.D.
Leping Wang is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Sociology at Vanderbilt äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾ and the Center for Research on Inequality and Health. Her research explores how social relationships and structural factors shape inequality in health and well-being, with a particular focus on aging populations.
Growing up across multiple regions in China and later internationally, Leping developed an early awareness of how identity and social context influence opportunity. These experiences continue to shape her approach to research and the questions she asks as a sociologist. She completed her PhD at Boston äçÐÄvlogÃâ·ÑBÕ¾, where she examined how social connectedness impacts the health and well-being of older adults in the U.S. and China, with an emphasis on gender differences.
At Vanderbilt, Leping contributes to an NIH-funded project examining the experiences of never-married older adults through the National Survey of Never Married Older Adults (NSONMA). Her work explores the diversity within this population, including social networks, support systems, and the varied experiences of lifelong singlehood, from fulfillment and autonomy to stigma and discrimination.
Leping values the collaborative and supportive environment at Vanderbilt, which has helped make her transition to postdoctoral training both smooth and rewarding. Outside of research, she enjoys live music, hiking, skating, dancing, and staying active, often finding community both on and off campus.
