How to add activities to the Content page

One thing instructors can do to help students navigate their course is add activities to the Content area of their course. Students use the Content page more than any other tool in Brightspace, so adding activities like Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions helps students find these activities easily and in order and context with the rest of the course materials and resources.Ìý

Adding activities to courses with the New Content Experience

If your course uses the New Content Experience, you can add activities to your Content page by taking the following steps:

  1. In your course, click on Content
  2. Navigate to the Unit you want to add the activity
  3. Click either Add Existing or Create New

    • Add Existing allows you to choose from activities that already exist
    • Create New starts creating a new activity from scratch
  4. Choose the activity type you want to add/create (ex - Assignment, Discussion, Quiz)
  5. If you chose Add Existing, you can now select the specific activity you wish to add
  6. If you chose Create New, you'll be taken to the activity creation page for that activity.
    • Once you've finished setting up your activity, click Save and Close to create it and add it to your Content page
  7. Once the activity has been added to your course, you'll see the description and other details listed as well as student submission status.Ìý

Adding Activities in Classic Content

  1. Navigate to the module you want to add the activity to
  2. Click either Upload/Create or Existing Activities

    • Select Existing Activities to choose from a list of activities that have already been created
    • ³§±ð±ô±ð³¦³ÙÌýUpload/Create to begin the process of creating a brand new activity
  3. Select the type of activity you want to add/create
  4. If you chose Existing Activities, select the specific activity you wish to add
  5. If you chose Upload/Create, you'll be taken to the activity creation page for that activity.
    • Once you've finished setting up your activity, click Save and Close to create it and add it to your Content page
  6. Once the activity has been added to your course, you'll see the description listed on the Content page
    • You can also click on the activity title to see other details listed as well as student completion summary.
